Supported by an intoxicating original soundtrack and gorgeous ever-changing cosmic backdrops, Aluna Rift fuses old-school arcade action with several modern-day gaming influences. Weapon upgrades are plentiful and full of vibrant neon-illumination, especially when combining several simultaneously. There are enormous screen-filling Boss Fights that really amp up the challenge, as well as a variety of random encounters that catch you off-guard by switching up the gameplay. Roguelite elements are also present, with the player’s performance in a run being rewarded with buffs for the next one. You can even bring a friend into the mix with co-operative game modes, or go head-to-head in a – surprisingly exhilarating – splitscreen battle mode! To top it all off, there’s an endless survival mode, equipped with its own global leaderboard that simply amplifies the already-present voice in your head whispering “just one more go!”.
